Every class this year has completed a group project. All of these beautiful works of art will be auctioned off in a silent auction during the last week of school. All proceeds from the silent auction will go toward improving the audio/visual equip
in the art room. Here are just a few samples...

JIM DINE INSPIRED HEARTS
Last month, the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes painted wonderful Jim Dine Inspired Hearts. One class was spent learning about POP ART: The art of common things, when and where it started, and looking at images of hearts made famous by American Pop Artist, Jim Dine. The next class, students were allowed to paint their own "Pop Art Heart." Some chose to do their own creation and others painted a copy of Jim Dine's creation.
They all did a great job!

ART AROUND THE WORLD
In preparation for our "Missions Fair" during the month of March we have been working on the art associated with a country or continent that each class has chosen to focus on for the Fair. During this exciting week we will have Missionaries from different parts of the world share their experiences with our students.
We have enjoyed this unit of study and look forward to hosting these special people as they inspire us to share the love of Christ. Here are the 1st graders working on "South African Sunsets and Mud Huts".

EN PLEIN AIR
One of our 8th grade students working on his En Plein Air, French for "in open air." This term is something we have talked about all year. It inspired the Impressionists Art movement during the end of the 19th Century.
1st GRADERS FIRST ART PROJECT
This is one of the very first art projects from the 2010-2011 school year. This art project was inspired by a banner I did which is now hanging over my desk in the art room.
Day 1, they painted paper. Day 2, they added swirly details with oil pastels. The results were beautiful!

CREATIVE KIDS
Every week I get to have the most fun teaching Art to our little ones here at The Child Development Center at Lakewood Baptist Church. They are so excited about coming to the Art Room here at Veritas and so ADORABLE! No other words are needed. The pics tell it all!
MONET OBSESSION
My son said recently, "Mom you are totally obsessed with Claude Monet." I have decided that if you must have an obsession, Monet is a great one to have. Every class this year has watched movies about Claude Monet and looked at books filled with Claude Monet's beautiful Impressionist Art. I received an email from a parent of one of my first graders. He was doing homework and his mother told him that his handwriting looked like "chicken scratch." He replied, "but I am writing the way Monet painted his waterlilies." Kids say the neatest things sometimes. This "sometime" made me very proud!
